Gold Jumps 6.8% in Weekly Gain, Silver Prices Soar 13.1%

 

Fine Gold BarsGold futures edged lower Friday, snapping a five-day winning streak, but still registering an explosive weekly gain of $111.10, or 6.8 percent.

Gold prices dipped 50 cents to close Friday at $1,747.20 an ounce in the December futures contract on the Comex in New York. The yellow metal ranged between an intraday low of $1,733.00 and a high at $1,754.00.

Gold Rallies Above $1,700, Silver Soars $1.41

 

Fine Gold BarsGold futures rallied nearly $50 Tuesday and closed above $1,700 an ounce as fresh concerns surfaced over Europe's debit crisis.

"People are realizing that the European situation is not resolving itself, and it's coming to the forefront again," Reuters earlier quoted Zachary Oxman, managing director at futures broker TrendMax.com. "If we can close above $1,700, I think we will see a meaningful jump in the next few weeks and $1,900 is very possible again."

Release Dates for 2012 America the Beautiful Quarters

 

Release dates are now known for the five 2012 America the Beautiful Quarters® that celebrate El Yunque National Forest in Puerto Rico, Chaco Culture National Historical Park in New Mexico, Acadia National Park in Maine, Volcanoes National Park in Hawaii and Denali National Park in Alaska.

2012 America the Beautiful Quarter Design Candidates

While design candidates have been released, the U.S. Mint has not yet released the final selected reverse images of the 2012 quarter dollars.

Marking the third year since the quarters were introduced, the coins represent the 11th through 15th issue in the series which honor national parks and other national sites throughout the United States, D.C., and each U.S. Territory. There will be 56 quarters in total upon the final issue in 2021.

Bullion American Silver Eagle Tops 36M

 

Fine Gold BarsGold surged Friday, snapping a string of four straight daily losses.

Gold prices rose $23.20, or 1.4 percent, to settle at $1,636.10 an ounce in the December futures contract on the Comex in New York. The yellow metal traded between $1,612.80 and $1,649.80.

Although prices moved within a somewhat narrow range Friday, they swung with a touch of volatility during the week. The five days of trading saw an intraday low price of $1,604.70 an ounce on Thursday and a high of $1,696.80 an ounce on Monday — more than a $92 difference.

$299.95 Price for American Silver Eagle 25th Anniversary Set

 

2011 American Silver Eagle Anniversary Set

The United States Mint will release the American Silver Eagle 25th Anniversary Set on October 27 at noon ET for a price of $299.95

Pricing for the American Silver Eagle 25th Anniversary Set was announced on Thursday by the United States Mint.

The collectible anniversary set featuring five 2011-dated American Silver Eagles will be available for $299.95, more than some expectations but less than others. Scheduled for release on October 27, the sets have an order limit of five per household.

US Mint Sales: Uncirculated Silver Eagles Rise Again

Proof and uncirculated Silver Eagles were suspended in late September and returned for saleat reduced prices in early October. A sizable number of collectors apparently canceled their orders in favor of the lower prices as sales of uncirculated Silver Eagles dropped for two straight reporting periods — by 424 and 11,476. Finest Known 1870-CC $20 Liberty Double Eagle Gold Coin Stolen

 

A Brinks shipment from Professional Coin Grading Service to Heritage Auctions on Oct. 17 was apparently broken into, and the finest known 1870-CC $20 stolen. The Liberty Double Eagle gold coin is graded AU58 by Numismatic Guaranty Corporation and carries NGC Certification ID 3414402-001.

March of Dimes Commemorative Coin Act Introduced

 

Coin Legislation on Capital BuildingNew legislation has been introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives calling for commemorative silver dollars in calendar year 2014 to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the founding of the March of Dimes.

Entitled the March of Dimes Commemorative Coin Act of 2011 and numbered H.R. 3187, the legislation would authorize the United States Mint to produce up to 500,000 coins struck in 90 percent silver and 10 percent copper.

American Eagle 25th Anniversary Silver Coin Set


This year marks the 25th anniversary of the American Silver Eagle and to celebrate the United States Mint announced it will commemorate it with an American Eagle 25th Anniversary Silver Coin Set.

The news came from US Mint Deputy Director Richard A. Peterson on Friday during a coinforum held at the American NumismaticAssociation's World's Fair of Money® near Chicago. The set is sure to be a popular hit and will launch sometime in October. Its price will not be known until shortly before the release, which is most likely due to this year's volitle prices of the precious metals market.

Gold, Silver Mark Weekly Gains; Bullion Eagle Coins Sluggish

The final trading day of the week had gold rising, opined analysts, as stocks and other riskier bets blossomed following news that U.S. consumers spent more than expected in September and on improved optimism that Europe's debt crisis would be contained.

The United States Mint began selling collector 2011 American Gold Eagle Proof Coins on April 21, 2011. One of them had been teetering toward a sell-out, and then suddenly, hit the marker Friday morning.

The Eagles come in four sizes, plus a four-coin set, and each has a different price and mintage limit. Interested buyers should note that the most popular of the gold American Eagle coins, the largest 1 oz. proof, has sold out.

US Mint May Hike Prices on Collector Gold and Commemorative Coins

The United States Mint may raise prices on collector gold and commemorative coins.

As a result of higher trending precious metals, prices for United States Mint collector gold and commemorative coins may increase Wednesday, October 12.

If price hikes occur, they would mark a sixth straight week that the Mint has adjusted prices for its collector gold coins. But moving coins higher would also break a streak of four straight weeks where prices had been cut.

Gold and Silver Prices Rise on Week, Bullion Silver Eagles Top 35 Million

 

Fine Gold BarsU.S. gold and silver prices closed lower Friday but previous daily pick-ups combined to snap four-week losing streaks as gold advanced 0.8 percent and silver gained 3.0 percent.

Gold was pressured Friday, said analysts, as investors sold the yellow metal to meet margin calls. Gold prices declined $17.40, or 1.1 percent, to settle at $1,635.80 an ounce in the December futures contract on the Comex in New York. Prices ranged from an intraday low of $1,627.60 to a high of $1,668.00.

2011 officially holds the record as the best year ever for American Eagle Silver bullion coins, according to United States Mint sales figures.

American Silver Eagle year-to-date sales hit 34,673,500 Thursday, October 6, blasting past the annual record of 34,662,500 achieved in 2010. The coins soared another 400,000 Friday, rising to 35,073,500 for the year.

The Perth Mint of Australia (www.perthmint.com.au) has issued the newest releases from its annual Australian Lunar Series II program with a staggering sixteen coins presented as part of the 2012 Year of the Dragon Gold and Silver Bullion Series. These sixteen Year of the Dragon Gold and Silver Bullion Coins are spread across nine different 99.99% pure gold strikes and seven composed of 99.9% pure silver.

Each of the bullion coins features the image of a mythical dragon which is the fifth creature to be celebrated as part of the 12-year cycle of the Chinese zodiac. Under that zodiac, those born between the upcoming Chinese New Year of January 23, 2012 and the end of that 12-month calendar on February 09, 2013 are said to be born in the Year of the Dragon.

September 2011 Sales of American Eagle Silver Bullion Coins Set Record

Another month in 2011 wrapped up, and another sales record was set. Last month ended up earning the "Best Ever September" and the second best month in the history for the American Eagle Silver bullion coin.

September started off very slow compared to the prior month, only 175,000 had been purchased in the first eight days and still less than 1 million by mid-month.

US Mint Collector Platinum Eagle, Gold Coin Prices Lower

The proof 2011 American Platinum Eagle and other collector gold coins had their prices cut by the U.S. Mint on Wednesday.

The United States Mint on Wednesday lowered prices on its collector gold coins and the Proof American Platinum Eagle due to lower prices in the precious metals market.

Gold coin prices were reduced for the same reason as the last two weeks, decreases in the yellow metal led to another drop on the Mint's price grid in accordance with its policy. The market price of bullion fell several times in the seven day period, which moved the London Fix weekly gold average two tiers lower in the price grid.

Gold Marks 12th Quarterly Gain, Silver Falls for Quarter, Silver Eagles Top 33.4M

 

Fine Gold BarsU.S. gold prices rose modestly Friday, capping a 12th straight quarterly gain. Despite a sharp 11.4 percent drop in September, the yellow metal advanced 8.0 percent in third quarter 2011.

On Friday, gold prices climbed $5.00, or 0.3 percent, to settle at $1,622.30 an ounce in the December futures contract on the Comex in New York. Gold ranged from an intraday low of $1,607.80 to a high of $1,642.50.

Precious Metals CommentaryFriday's market action in precious metals got off to a bit of a mixed and rocky start as the US dollar continued its ascent on the trade-weighted index and as traders began to square books and close the trading logs on a quarter that will still go down in the record books as the worst one since 2008. The yellow metal has lost about 11% on the month in a negative performance reminiscent of October of that somber year.
