America the Beautiful Design Reveal Planned for February

By Numismatic News

Collectors who are anxious to see the new America the Beautiful quarter designs will have to wait a little longer.

As the New Year opened, word from the Mint was the five 2010 reverse designs would likely be revealed at a special February ceremony.

No further details were available at press time.

The program will span 56 reverse designs issued at the rate of five per year.

The first five states to be recognized will be Arkansas, Hot Springs National Park; Wyoming, Yellowstone National Park; California, Yosemite National Park; Arizona, Grand Canyon National Park, and Oregon, Mount Hood National Forest.

Though the series is already familiarly known among collectors as the National Park quarter series, not every state has a National Park within its borders, so National Forests, Wildlife Refuges, Historic Sites, and the like are also included.

The final issue of the series will be 2021 when Alabama’s Tuskegee Airmen National Historic Site is recognized.

Obverse of the quarter will feature the Washington design as it has been presented since its first appearance on the 1999 state quarters.
