US Mint to Release Jane Pierce First Spouse Gold Coin and Bronze Medal on June 3

The United States Mint will begin accepting orders for the Jane Pierce First Spouse Gold Coin on June 3, 2010, at noon Eastern Time (ET).

Fakes coins come right to my desk

I had an e-mail this morning from Asia. The sender wanted to know if I was interested in trading for coins he had. The images he sent looked like fakes to me.

Now thanks to spam e-mails like this the fakes come right to my desk. I don't have to search online auctions anymore. Next step I imagine is ...

Early quarters of the US are a tough group

Early quarters of the United States are a tough group. It was apparently a case where the quarter was simply not a high priority for many years so the early quarters are a tough collection to assemble. Things are much better for collectors when it comes to Seated Liberty quarters. They may be a collection that is nearly impossible to complete, but they are a collection where you can assemble a set with a lot of very interesting coins at very good prices.

Professional Coin Grading Service (www.PCGS.com) today revealed additional steps it is taking to improve its ability to detect altered coins.

PCGS announced that it has a process in development which will detect any foreign substance on a coin's surface, and also announced a major lawsuit filed against alleged coin doctors.
