2010 Boy Scouts Centennial Commemorative CoinSales ticked slightly slower for 2010 Boy Scouts Commemorative Coins. Newly released United States Mint figures reveal 2,820 of the proof silver dollars are left.

The uncirculated $1s dropped 25, which was lowest decrease since the US Mint started adjusting for their returns, cancellations and standby orders. They sold out five weeks ago.

May 2010 American Silver Bullion Coin Sales Highest Since December 1986

2010 American Silver Eagle Bullion CoinThe United States Mint's bullion 2010 American Silver Eagles posted their best May and second best sales month in history, according to the most recent figures available from the Mint.

In just the one month, buyers purchased an astonishing 3,636,500 of the one ounce .999 fine silver coins. This number smashes the old May record of 1,904,500 set last year.

May 2010 sales fell short of the best month ever by only 59,500. December 1986 retains the title with 3,696,000. While the month to month comparison is always valid, it should be noted that December 1986 bullion eagle numbers were lifted by the excitement of their premiering worldwide release just days earlier.

"America The Beautiful" Trademark US Mint Owned?

American FlagAccording to the lawyers at the U.S. Mint, the term "America the Beautiful" cannot be used when referring to the quarter series without noting that it is a trademark.

Coin World is reporting [subscriber access here] that Numismatic Guarantee Corporation will change the labels they use on certified 2010 quarters to remove "America The Beautiful" from across the top because the lawyers at the U.S. Mint complained.

According to registered trademark number 77823874, the trademark is for the term America the Beautiful Quarter™ with the disclaimer "No claim is made to the exclusive right to use America or Quarters apart from the mark as shown."

Bullion update ... Murder On the Euro-Express?

Good Morning,

The holiday-shortened trading week opened on a firmer footing for precious metals last night, as a confluence of several economic and geopolitical factors kept safe-haven interest on the boil among global investors.

The sudden resignation of Germany's President Horst Kohler (over certain remarks he made about German military deployments overseas), the (not-so-sudden) loss of an "A" in its Fitch's ratings received by Spain, and the tragic results of the commando attack on the aid/protest flotilla by Israel, all combined to keep the nervousness level among investors at a higher than normal level as the trading week got underway.
