| Rare U.S. and World notes make strong showing at International Paper Money Show Dallas, TX — Heritage Auction Galleries' Currency Signature® Auction held in Memphis, TN, June 17-19, in conjunction with the Memphis International Paper Money Show, showed continued strength in the rare currency market, successfully realizing $5.1 million.  The highest price realized in the auction came near the end of Session Three when a Walla Walla, Washington Territory – $5 1875 Fr. 403 The First NB Ch. # 2380 PMG Very Fine 25 crossed the auction block and was sold for $161,000 "This auction contained a wide variety of significant U.S. and World notes," said Allen Mincho, Director of Currency Auctions at Heritage, "and savvy collectors – both at the show and online – were more than happy to take advantage of the offerings." | A new one-dollar circulation coin immortalizing the centennial of the Canadian Navy, proudly produced by the Royal Canadian Mint, was unveiled today by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, Queen of Canada and Commander-in-Chief of the Canadian Forces.  2010 Canadian Navy Centennial $1 Circulation Coin The unveiling took place at a luncheon celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Canadian Navy, hosted by the Honourable Peter MacKay, Minister of National Defence. | U.S. gold prices dived 3.2 percent Thursday as a series of reports raised concerns of an economic slowdown in the U.S. and China, triggering a large sell-off in commodities and stocks. Silver declined the most in precious metals, plummeting 4.9 percent. Platinum and palladium fell 2.0 percent and 3.5 percent, respectively. In other markets, crude oil slid to a three-week low and under $73 a barrel while U.S. stocks pared earlier losses with the major indexes down between 0.32 percent and 0.42 percent. (...) | Excitement is generally muted in the latest batch of United States Mint coin sales figures. There were a few standouts that either jumped or passed new thresholds. The 2010 American Veterans Disabled for Life Silver Dollars qualify for the former with sales surging 5,243, more than doubling the level of recent weekly gains. If that pace could be maintained, the commemoratives would actually sell out by year's end and join the 2010 Boy Scouts coins at 350,000. The DAV coins are currently are at 214,808 or 61.37% of their maximum. Collectors are buying 2.34 proofs for every 1 uncirculated coin. (...) | Sino-Spanish-Indian Melange. The Aroma of Slowing. Good Morning, Chinese government efforts aimed at cooling the country's economy are apparently bearing fruit. Although some of this fruit has begun to now ripen and is ready for picking, global speculators want none of it after the steady diet of fatty profits they have been on for years. As a result, this morning they were seen selling many if not most assets that relate to the demand for 'stuff' as applicable to China. Official and independent surveys showed that manufacturing activity did indeed slow down in China and that this slowing boat is now moving at barely (four-tenths of a point, to be exact) above the "50" marker on its waterline — the dividing point between growth and the lack of same.
