Krause Resigns from ANA Board of Governors
July 8, 2010 at 3:46 PM

ANAChester L. Krause has resigned from the American Numismatic Association Board of Governors, and will be replaced by former Governor Alan Herbert.

In a July 7 letter to President Clifford Mishler, Krause explained that health reasons precluded his attendance at the Board of Governors meetings in Florida in January and in March in Fort Worth during the ANA National Money Show.

"Although I feel in generally good health, it has become increasingly difficult for me to travel," Krause said to President Mishler. "Consequently, I don't feel I can serve the Board or the ANA membership to the fullest extent. I think it is proper for me to step aside sooner than later. It has been my pleasure to serve with you and all the Board members during the last three years."

July 8, 2010 at 3:05 PM

Bullion update ...U.S. gold prices slid $2.80 lower on Thursday. Investors' attraction toward more risk was commonly cited for its decline.

Precious metals were mixed as a group. Silver and platinum both fell 0.7 percent while palladium inched 0.5 percent higher.

In other markets, crude oil prices soared for a second session after falling the prior six, while U.S. stocks rose for a third straight day with major indexes advancing between 0.7 percent and 1.2 percent.

The circulating mintage total for the quarter-dollar is 68.4 million, with 34.8 million struck in Denver and 33.6 million from Philadelphia.

The levels are higher than those of the scarcest Hot Springs coins, which were issued earlier this year and remain the least produced quarter in decades. Those came in at 59.6 million, with 29 million from Denver and 30.6 million from Philadelphia.

US Mint Sales: America the Beautiful Quarters Products in Spotlight
July 8, 2010 at 10:30 AM

US Mint Sales Figures ImageAside from the Pierce coin cover launched last Thursday, the newest America the Beautiful Quarters™ Products were the biggest unit gainers in the latest round of United States Mint coin sales figures. But numismatic issues were very lethargic over all. Bullion American Silver Eagles, however, were popping like fireworks on the fourth of July.

Of the released 2010 quarters products, the proof set earned the title for most wanted, posting weekly sales of 5,103 and bringing their total to 156,212 since issued on May 13. The silver set, which launched on May 27, was a step behind with an increase of 3,585. It scored a total of 126,912, or 44.5 percent of the 2009 silver quarters set level which is still on sale. That set advanced 593 to 284,884.

Gold, Silver, Metal Prices Commentary – July 8, 2010
July 8, 2010 at 7:12 AM

Bullion update ... It's Acronym Day, Again: ECB, BoE, IMF, BIS

Good Morning,

Following yesterday's bounce back to the $1200 price zone, gold prices gained in the aftermarket overnight and climbed as high as almost $1209.00 per ounce. However, India's physical buyers thinned out in numbers as soon as the metal crossed above the psychologically important round figure.

Thereafter, gold was left to take its cues from the continuing improvement in sentiment regarding the state of the global economy. Credit Agricole analyst Robin Bhar opined that the yellow metal might still however be near the top of its range and that the there is little to be found of the "fear factor anymore, the end of the world, Armageddon, to really drive gold significantly higher."
