Gold Prices Close to Fresh Record, Silver Tops $23

Bullion UpdateU.S. gold prices closed to another record Wednesday, its second straight and 13th since mid-September. The yellow metal briefly topped $1,350 an ounce as the dollar slumped after ADP Employer Services reported a drop in private U.S. payroll numbers.

Silver extended its streak of gains, closing at another 30-year high and surpassing $23 an ounce. Platinum and palladium finished higher as well, marking respective daily gains of 0.7 and 2.0 percent.

U.S. stocks ended mixed, with the Dow up 0.21 percent, the Nasdaq down 0.8 percent and the S&P 500 lower by 0.07 percent.(...)

September 2010 Gold Eagle Bullion Coin Sales Rebound

American Eagle Gold Bullion CoinBullion 2010 Gold American Eagles rebounded significantly in September. The latest United States Mint coin sales figures reveal 88,000 ounces of the precious metal strikes were sold to Mint Authorized Purchasers last month.

The tally includes the one ounce Gold Eagle as well as the three fractional 1/2 ounce, 1/4 ounce, and 1/10 ounce sizes.

Across the board, all four of the 22-karat gold coins showed improvement from August numbers. While the increase was not a dramatic feat since those sales were at their lowest level in over two years, they are notable as summer buying actively is typically slower for all American Eagle coins.(...)

Gold, Silver, Metal Prices Commentary – October 6, 2010

GoldReverberations of the surprise easing by the Bank of Japan continued to buoy a host of assets during the overnight and Wednesday daytime trading hours. Asian equity markets staged strong rallies, as did those in Europe, following yesterday's hefty US market gains. Commodities also continued to gain in value following Tuesday's melt-up in gold, copper and tin prices.

Following the first drop in private sector payrolls (as reported by ADP's survey released earlier today) since the beginning of the year engendered a further slide in the US dollar which sank to an eight-month low (against the euro) and stoked further apprehensions about what the Labour Department's Friday report might reveal.(...)

September 2010 Silver Eagle Bullion Coin Sales Ease

Bullion 2010 American Silver Eagles slid in September, according to the most recent sales figures released by the United States Mint.

2010 American Silver Eagles1,880,000 of the .999 fine silver strikes were ordered by the U.S. Mint's network of Authorized Purchasers in September 2010. This is down 571,000 from August numbers. More interesting, the level is the lowest since September 2009 — also the slowest month of last year, when just over 1.7 million were sold.(...)
