Gettysburg Quarter Production, DMPL and PL Coins Designated by PCGS, Royal Wedding Coin

We're back with another fresh round up of coin collecting news and articles from around the internet! First, the initial production figures for the Gettysburg Quarter are the lowest for any of the America the Beautiful Quarters released to date. The US Mint has released preliminary production figures for the Gettysburg National Military Park Quarter indicating 61.2 million coins struck for circulation. This represents a new mintage low for the series, although it remains possible that theMint might restart production.

A new Coingrader Capsule discusses PVC contamination to lead into a discussion of the PCGSspot removal service.

This post on the PCGS blog lists developments for the first 60 days. An interesting development is that PCGS will begin designating Proof Like (PL) for the 2009 Ultra High Relief Double Eagleand Deep Mirror Proof Like (DMPL) for the America the Beautiful Silver Bullion Coins. NGChas awarded these attributions to eligible coins from the start. Great rarities including an 1804 Silver Dollar, 1913 Liberty Nickel, and 1787 Brasher Doubloon from the ANA Museum Showcase will be on display at the National Money Show in Sacramento.

Coverage from a coin show in Racine County Wisconsin has some interesting discussions onpaper money, nickels, and a 62 pound silver bar.

One of the Mint's experiments with gold dollars in 1852 was the ring dollar, with a hole in the middle of the coin to allow a larger diameter.

The UK Royal Mint has indicated that sales of gold and silver coins doubled from the levels of the prior year.

The House Financial Services Committee will examine many issues related to the US Mint and Bureau of Engraving and Printing over the next two years, including the problem of counterfeit rare U.S. coins.

A design from a 27 year old Fine Arts student was selected by Royal Dutch Mint for acommemorative two Euro coin.

The Royal Mint has revealed the design of the Prince William and Kate Middleton Royal Weddingcommemorative coin.

And now for some notable auctions. First, a high grade example of an "11 cent coin." It's a 2000Lincoln Cent struck on a dime graded NGC MS 67.

Next, an 1883 Trade Dollar graded ANACS PF 64 Cameo in an old small holder. This is one of the proof only years of the series with a mintage of less than one thousand.

Last, a group of ten 2009 DC & US Territories Quarter Silver Proof Sets. Following the recent rise in the price of silver, the silver value of each set is now almost $37.
