A 1794 silver dollar will highlight the Collectors' Auction to be conducted Oct. 15 by Scotsman in conjunction with the Silver Dollar and Rare Coin Expo in St. Charles, Mo. One of a large number of early American coins, the 1794 dollar is B-1, BB-1, and is graded VF-30 by the Professional Coin Grading Service, notes cataloger John Bush. "Details are easily consistent with that grade, notwithstanding the weakness on the left side of the obverse, but even the 'weakness' is stronger than seen on most, according to the catalog."

Brenner's Time-Honored Lincoln

Teddy Roosevelt had a good idea when he decided there should be a coin honoring the 100th anniversary of Abraham Lincoln's birth. Just as good were his choices of the denomination to be used and the sculptor to design it, Victor D. Brenner. The Numismatist called Brenner a "brilliant young medalist and ornament to the American Numismatic Association." Poet Frank Dempster Sherman, who wrote a tribute to the Lincoln cent that appeared in the magazine, described Brenner as a genius. Few would argue the point.

Where Can I Find National Park Quarters?

Earlier this year, the United States Mint began the new series of National Park Quarters, under the official title of America the Beautiful Quarters. The series will feature a National Park or national site from each of the 50 states, 5 U.S. territories, and the District of Columbia depicted on the reverse a circulating quarter. The sites will be presented in the order federally designated with a total of 56 different designs issued over 11 years of the series.

Talk about a heavy withdrawal. In Madrid, Spain, a unique type of ATM, known as Gold To Go, dispenses gold bars and coins to customers in exchange for cash. Many might ask how an invention like this, the first of its kind in Europe (there is a duplicate device in Abu Dhabi), can serve as a practical means of trading currency. "The big benefit for the client is to have gold at an always reasonable price, what you never can get on a daily basis in banks or with other deals," Thomas Geissler, Gold To Go's inventor.
