2010 American Buffalo Gold Proof Coins on Sale

The United States Mint on Thursday, June 3, released the 2010 American Buffalo Gold Proof Coin for an opening price of $1,510.00.

The one ounce .9999 fine, 24-karat gold coin marks its fifth year of issue, but this year's version could experience demand unlike past offerings if recent history is any indication.

The 2009 proof launched on October 29, 2009. Debuting four-day sales roared to 19,468. The US Mint stopped selling the coins on March 29, 2010 around the 50,000 level — the most recent unaudited Mint sales figures have them at 49,388.

DALLAS, TX — The Official Currency Auction of the 2010 Memphis International Paper Money Show in Memphis will be conducted by Heritage Auctions June 17-21.

Three Featured Notes in Heritage Memphis International Paper Money Auction

The auction will include three floor sessions and an online session. Lot viewing will be conducted at the Cook Convention Center, East Hall, 225 N. Main Street in Memphis, and the floor sessions will be held at the Memphis Marriott Downtown, Heritage Ballroom, 250 North Main Street.

Session One will begin on Thursday evening, June 17, at 6 p.m. CST, and includes World Currency, Canadian Currency, Miscellaneous, Continental Currency, Colonials, Fractional Currency, Obsoletes, Confederate Notes, and Military Payment Certificates.

Jane Pierce First Spouse Gold Coins Issued

The United States Mint launched the Jane Pierce First Spouse Gold Coins on Thursday, June 3, at 12 Noon (Eastern). These 24-karat gold coins are struck to honor the former First Lady who was married to the fourteenth President of the United States Franklin Pierce.

Available in either proof or uncirculated condition, the .9999 fine gold coins mark the fifteenth for the first spouse series which debuted in 2007 with a strike honoring Martha Washington (wife of the first President of the United States George Washington).

Bullion update ... Hungary Hungover

Good Morning,

Anticipation that Friday morning's May jobs report from the US Labour Department would reveal a 'staggering' rate of job creation (the largest in 27 years) briefly brought bullion prices to under the $1200 during the overnight and early morning hours.

The metal sank as risk appetite for equities rose and as safe-haven quests abated for the time being, and despite a fresh decline in the euro that depressed it closer to the 1.205 level. Bargain hunters in gold did become visible in the mid $1190s however, and bullion regained some composure.
