Silver Coin Marks the 30th Anniversary of Poland's Solidarity Movement

The National Bank of Poland has issued a new silver coin to mark the 30th anniversary of the founding of the Solidarity movement. Solidarity was Poland's first (as well as the first in any Warsaw pact country) non-communist party controlled trade union, which was established in the shipyards of Gdansk. The obverse of the silver coin shows an image of a crowd formed in the shape of the letter "S" with raised hands as a sign of victory. The stylized date of 1980 appears over the crowd. On either side of the primary design is the inscription "POLISH SIEPRIE?".

2010 American Eagle Gold Proof Coins Available October 7

The American Eagle Gold Proof Coins are struck in 22-karat gold. The coins' obverse (heads side) features Augustus Saint-Gaudens' rendition of Liberty holding a torch in her right hand and an olive branch in her left. The coins' reverse (tails side), designed by sculptor Miley Busiek, features an image of a male eagle carrying an olive branch, flying above a nest containing a female eagle and her hatchlings.
